David Leitch Open to Directing The Fall Guy Sequel: “It Would Be a Dream”

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, David Leitch says that directing a sequel to The Fall Guy “would be a dream.” The first installment, starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, was released last year and grossed $181 million on a $150 million budget.
At the time of the film’s release, Gosling revealed that a script for the sequel had already been written and was ready to shoot: “The sequel sort of wrote itself. We knew [the story] right away. We just hoped audiences would love the film enough for us to be able to revisit these characters. We really love these characters and this world, and we’re confident we can make it.”
A year later, the sequel has still not been greenlit, and for Leitch it has become “a dream.” He told The Hollywood Reporter: “There were early conversations between Ryan and us, and a draft outlining the story direction was written. We had a lot of very exciting ideas. So who knows—maybe in the end it will be one of those films that people want to return to because it built a fan base after its theatrical release. It would be like a dream. But if it doesn’t happen, there are plenty of other stories to tell.”
Leitch, who began his filmmaking career as a stuntman, set a Guinness World Record for the most car rolls in a single take with The Fall Guy. The film received an A- CinemaScore from audiences and grossed $28.5 million in its first three days at the U.S. box office.
